Pioppino (Agrocybe aegerita), also known as the Black Poplar or Swordbelt mushroom, is a gourmet favourite with a rich, earthy flavour. Pioppino mushrooms are great for cooking and hold their shape really well in the pan, making them perfect for pastas, risottos, stir fries, soups, sauces and sautés. They have a slightly nutty, peppery flavour that gets even better when browned in the pan. Pioppino grow in clusters of long stems with little brown caps that look almost too good to eat!

Shipping & Delivery

Orders are typically dispatched within 24 hours, although there may be occasional delays (we're a small team!). As our Grow Kits are live products, we do not ship orders on Fridays to minimize potential delays over the weekend.

Providing precise estimated delivery times can be challenging and is largely out of our control once handed over to Australia Post. You can track your order using the Australia Post tracking number/link in your shipping confirmation email!

What's in the box?!

Inside the box you'll find an instruction sheet and a healthy block of substrate (mushroom growing medium) that has been fully colonized by mushroom mycelium (the white stuff).

Once a block is fully colonized, that means that the mushroom has consumed the nutrients in the substrate and is ready to pump out a huge flush of delicious mushrooms!

Our substrate consists of an exclusive, specially formulated recipe designed to produce unbeatable yields. Made from all natural, all Australian materials and free from any nasty chemicals, fertilizers, sprays and pesticides.

Once your kit is exhausted, take the block and crumble it over your garden as a mulch or add it to your compost!

What growing conditions do they need?

For best results, start your grow kit straight away. Grow kits can be placed in the fridge for 1-2 months to put them into a temporary hibernation, however they will eventually begin to grow on their own!

We recommend placing your grow kit somewhere that receives some natural light, but be sure to keep your kit out of sustained direct sunlight (direct sunlight can cause the kit to dry out)

Your kitchen, bathroom or laundry are usually a good choice!

How long do they take to grow?

Growth time depends on the variety you selected and the temperature of your home, but you can usually expect to see mushrooms beginning to form after 7-10 days.

Black Pearl and King Brown will generally take a little bit longer than Oysters or Lions Mane.

Once you see them starting to form they will grow very rapidly, and you'll be harvesting within 5-6 days!

What do I need?

All you need is some form of spray bottle to mist your grow kit with water.

We stopped including spray bottles in our kits in an effort to reduce single use plastic waste.

How many mushrooms will I grow?

Again, this depends on the variety and the conditions that the mushrooms are grown in. In ideal conditions, you can grow up to 1kg of fresh mushrooms from a single kit over 2-3 crops.

Once you harvest your first crop, your kit should have enough energy left for a 2nd crop (and sometimes a third!)
